What Are Chemical Peels?
Not all skin care treatments have to be so complicated! Chemical peels are specialty easy-to-apply treatments that involve the application of mild acids to the skin. Most common chemical peels contain a range of different, natural nutrients and acids such as glycolic, trichloroacetic, salicylic, lactic, and carbolic acid. These components are safe and act as exfoliating agents, ridding your skin of dead cells and debris. Their easy application and fast treatment times make peels an excellent treatment choice for those interested in ridding their skin of melasma, sun damage, acne, and scarring. Loraine Diego, MD is proud to provide the Echo Park and Silver Lake communities with her Perfect 10 Peels.
How Do Chemical Peels Work?
Chemical peels range in acid concentration from mild to deep. Your particular peel type will be dependent on your specific skin care needs. Depending on the type of peel chosen for you, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs after the application process. This is accompanied by redness and scaling that ends within 3-7 days. The peels offered at our center usually take approximately 15-20 minutes to apply. These peels serve as a great introduction procedure for most patients because they help almost all skin problems and benefit all skin types.
What Do Chemical Peels Treat?
Chemical peels are a great choice for those struggling with hyperpigmentation and similar concerns. Our Perfect 10 Peels in particular are formulated to improve the appearance of dull and uneven skin tone. These miraculous peels improve fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, sun damage, discoloration, large pores, and skin roughness. For enhanced results, we also offer our Infinite Wellness, MD skin care line as well as the DermaFrac system.
What to Expect During Treatment
Most of the chemical peels available at our clinic generally take 15-20 minutes to apply. However, this time may vary depending on your individual skin care needs. During a peel session, most people feel a slight burning and stinging sensation. This feeling usually lasts about 5-10 minutes. After the procedure, some redness may be experienced, followed by peeling of the skin. Once the peeling process is over, you can expect to see radiant results.
Results of Chemical Peels
Mild peels offer a nice radiance and glow with zero downtime. This variety may be repeated at four week intervals until optimal results are reached. Medium and deep chemical peels may result in some slight swelling, redness, and sensitivity. Afterward, your skin will peel over a period of 7-14 days. You’ll need to avoid direct sunlight for several months after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile and prone to irritation.
